Summer School 2012 @ Pennine Camphill College
The Summer School was a huge success attracting people of all ages and abilities. Crafts included designing and making pottery, Raku firing, felt-making and soft jewellery design, face-painting techniques, willow work to make festival and celebratory props and sensory garden design all based in our new purpose built workshops in the beautiful and natural Pennine Community setting. The Summer School courses were so popular that we were able to deliver a further pottery workshop over two days in November and those participants a planning to set up a Friday morning pottery club. Soul Portobello Annual Festival
People of all ages participated, ranging from under 5s to people in their eighties to prepare decorative bunting and props. This was undertaken during the Olympics so people who were unable to attend them in London felt they were part of a national celebration in their own environment. The community bunting, flags and ‘Olympic Story’ stage set were designed painted and displayed in the centre of the estate as part of their rehearsals and final performance for “Bella’s got Talent”. This project was facilitated by Pennine staff and also provided training for three work experience helpers. The festival was a huge success.
Ecology Project in partnership with the Princes Trust at Pennine College
The Princes Trust -Team 85 joined Pennine Community for a five day intensive project, their challenge was to work on a project that benefited the wider community, their brief was to clear a derelict and overgrown area, to construct shelters and fire pits to create a safe and welcoming site for outdoor learning projects and land based craft courses here. The Participants improved their knowledge and understanding of the creative process through practical ‘hands on experience’ supported by engagement and purposeful activity, design and problem solving exercises and practice based education.
Working in the Creative Industries.
This was a work experience and training project with four much challenged young people who had very little domestic or social stability. They were able to select from several practical work based areas and shadow the workshop leaders for up to 5 days. Participants engaged in hanging exhibitions, making pottery, erecting awnings and shelters for practical projects outdoors, working in the organic gardens, supporting the farmer with land based practical tasks and the care of livestock, preparing for and supporting fairs and festivals and helping severely disabled children to horse ride.
