Long-term Volunteering

Vocational Co-worker — House Guardian: starting August 2008

View from Boyne Hill House on a winter's morning

An exciting opportunity exists for an individual or couple to join our team of House Guardians to run a residential house. Experience of working with people with special needs is essential, and we prefer you to have experience in managing people in some way. We expect you to hold or be willing to undertake professional training to NVQ level 3 or 4.  Therefore the person/s appointed will need a good command of English, both written and verbal. We expect you to be willing to receive guidance in running a house along Camphill/Anthroposophical lines and be keen to work together with other members of the Community. Camphill or curative education experience would be an advantage.

Individuals, couples and families welcome to apply. This is a traditional Camphill volunteer position.

For more information and an application pack please e-mail vera@pennine.ac.uk.

We sometimes have vacancies for longer term Vocational Co-workers. We have no other vacancies now, but we may have some from August 2008.

There may be opportunities to jointly run one of the five households, and also to help out with or run one of the activities including teaching, craft and land work. We are able to offer in-house training that can lead to ongoing professional development.

The Community is able to support families with an interest in Waldorf education. Children from the Community can attend the York Steiner School on a daily basis.

The position of a career volunteer is well established within Camphill and can provide an interesting alternative to conventional career approaches. Pennine have developed a responsive approach to individual circumstances and has pro-active policies with regards to training and pensions.

Co-workers who are prepared to make a longer-term commitment are encouraged to take part in, and develop, new projects.

Please email volunteering@pennine.org.uk if you would like to discuss this further or would like to arrange a visit.
