Advent Garden 2007 — A Gift of Light
On the first Sunday of Advent a spiral of moss and crystals has been prepared; at its centre a single candle has been lit. Some of us are quietly singing while the younger members of our community take an apple in which a candle has been firmly placed. Each in turn walks the inwards pathway of the spiral to light their candles at the centre. On the return journey the light of each traveller is placed carefully in a chosen part of the ‘garden’, preparing the way for those who will follow. Gradually the spiral pathway becomes bathed in a warm glowing light. It is cold and dark outside, but our hearts are warmed with expectation and hope. Christmas draws near.
The Christmas Play 2006
The Christmas play, written and performed by the students, was enjoyed by parents and friends.
St John’s Day (24 June)
As part of the St John’s Day celebrations, the College Group did a play featuring a pigman, a chicken lady, a paper boy, an actress and a baker — they were being interviewed by reporters and the cameraman was filming them.
It was really about a young lady leaving home and trying to decide what to do with her life. Finally she arrives at a Camphill Community and decides to stay there. She likes all the friendly people whom she meets at a dance in the evening and again in the morning while she is working on the land, making bread and making dinner for everyone.
After the play we lit the fire and had a barbecue — with lots of food as usual! We had just started singing when it poured with rain. So we went into Aulis and sang our hearts out accompanied by Mark and Michael on the guitar and Andrew on the violin. We had a great time even though it rained and we couldn’t jump over the fire! Oh dear! (Better luck next year).
(We jump over the fire to have good luck, so we hope there will still be good luck this year.)
