Work Areas
In the work areas, students’ learning and progress are continually assessed in order to give them increasing responsibility and a sense of purpose. Specialisation is not the aim, but rather seeing a task through to its completion and the furthering of skill training.
The co-workers are not merely teachers; they are co-workers in the true sense of the word and act as enablers.
The five house kitchens
In each house kitchen two or three students, together with a co-worker, cook lunch for the household using fresh ingredients.
The bakery
Students work together with the baker to make traditional and speciality breads entirely by hand, using organically produced ingredients. One of our students also has the task of delivering the fresh bread to the Community's households.
Stables
In partnership with Wakefield Riding for the Disabled, stables and a riding school with outdoor and covered arena are located on the Pennine Camphill Community site. This gives students the opportunity to learn about horse and stable management and to have riding lessons.
Farm and gardens
Students and co-workers produce fresh food for the Community on the farm and gardens.
Estate
A group of students and a co-worker maintain the estate. This includes some gardening and horticulture, as well as projects such as laying paths and building walls.
